Different Adventures

Day 253

After we had the water leaks repaired yesterday, we decided to continue to use the water pump in the Rv to ensure the leaks were all fixed. No sounds came from the pump until late in the afternoon yesterday, the pump made a quick brrrrp, and stopped. Worried something was not repaired correctly, I began pulling out the cabinet drawers to get to the hot water tank located in behind. I inspected the area and everything was dry. 

This time I was going to be a little more detailed in my inspections and decided to check the bathroom sink and shower again, everything was ok. The last place I decided to check was the outside access panel to the hot water tank. Walking up to the tank I definitely noticed water dripping from the bottom of the access door. Opening the door I began inspecting the pressure release and drain valve. The area around the drain plug was wet but I did not see any water dripping. It was getting dark by now and I put my face close to the drain plug for a better view. As I was watching to see where the water was coming from, I felt a small trickle of water run down my face. 

I did not feel anything drip on me so I pulled my head back in confusion wondering where the water came from. When I stood up and shifted my view, I noticed a line of water as fine as a spiders thread shooting out from the centre of the plug…. Whew! A fixable external problem, I will look into fixing it tomorrow. 

Today Lori and I felt we needed to have a little adventure, so we set our sites on the Rooster Cogburn ostrich petting zoo located just down the highway from us. Before we arrived I had envisioned a typical zoo, but with ostriches. When we arrived we purchased two tickets and were handed four cups with an assortment of pellets, birdseed, tokens and nectar. We were given a quick tutorial of the food in the cups and what animals were to receive what. 

Okay I will admit.. I was intrigued. I will call this place a ranch rather than a zoo, the place was laid out so you could interact with the animals directly. All the animals were eager for our attention, I know, it was the food not us! At each station the animals lined up along their pens, jostling for the holes where they would stick their heads through to receive a palm of pellets. Being myself and Lori, we sought out the little underdogs in the pens who were pushed away from the openings by the bigger animals, giving them their fair share of the food. Each stop as we went was enjoyable and the place was actually amazing, highly recommend it to anyone. 

We finished the evening off quietly and headed for bed. We turned the water pump and hot water tank off to allow the leak to slowly stop as the water line pressure died down. Then I set the propane furnace to 19 and headed for bed. About 3:00 in the morning a loud vibrating sound pulled me from my sleep, I immediately ran to the front of the Rv in a panic, unsure what was going on, I killed the main power switch to the Rv and the sound immediately stopped. With time to think of what the hell was going on, I returned back to bed to ponder what just happened. 

The adventures certainly are coming in different ways. 

This was interesting. Goats like heights, so they would climb to the top of this platform. The white cups you see on the belt you would fill with pellets and turn a handle, taking the pellets to the goats. 

The longer pellets in your cup were to feed the goats with your mouth. 

The ostriches you hand to feed below the fence so they had to reach over. 

Lori feed an ostrich on the walkway that lifted you above them. Having to not bend over, the ostrich grabbed her fingers..good thing they have no teeth.

The ducks were nuts and we did not feed them from our hand, we just threw the seed at them… okay, we didn’t throw it at them… but we wanted to! 

Only one tortoise was active today, all the rest were calling it a day! 

This was very cool, the little cup with nectar had a lid on it. We were to leave the lid on, place the container in our hand like I am doing in the photo. The lorikeets landed on our hands, pulled the lid off themselves and began the feasting. 

You had an option at the entrance to buy feed for the stingrays, we decided not to feed them for our visit.
