Kippers

Day 103

Since we left, there have been only a few days were we just stayed home and relaxed with the puppies. With the list of places to visit around Amherst fairly small, we decided to take a little down time from driving. In the morning we headed into town to do some laundry and a few groceries before heading back to the Rv.

When you think of the maritimes, the first thing that normally pops into your mind is seafood, such as crab, lobster, clams, and cod. In many of the grocery stores we visited, I would continued to stumble across smoked herring kippers. Until now, I have not seen kippers since my childhood, when my dad would poach them in milk for breakfast. I do not remember if I ever tried them, but as a kid I was thankful he normally made them for himself.

In the afternoon, Maritime Atlantic Ferry returned my call concerning the dispute on how my Rv grew two additional feet during our travels across Newfoundland. I was on the phone for about thirty minutes, each of us taking turns explaining our positions concerning the matter. In the end, it really came down to them holding all the cards. your Rv is in Newfoundland and if you want to return to the Mainland? This will cost extra! A quick recap on the situation read July 20th entry, A Newfoundland Sendoff.

In the end, Maritime Atlantic explained that a credit for the two foot difference was issued in Nova Scotia. They also stand by the method the Newfoundland port uses for measuring, and the additional charge. Lesson here is, know your length and do not allow the port to alter it.
