Stickers and Cacti

Day 231

Our last day in San Angelo was fairly quiet. We explored the town a little more in the morning, and in the afternoon I went for a hike to explore the desert terrain in more detail. The environment sure has changed since we left Louisiana, from swamps and Spanish moss to red clay, cacti and stickers!

Stickers being a local slang term for a grass seed called Sandburs. These little buggers are bloody sharp and strong enough to stab your skin. Every time the pups go for a walk, gizmo seems to pick one or two up in his paws, Sophie’s fur seems to repel them for the most part. In the Rv, we have found them stuck on blankets, Gizmos bed, and in the carpet.

Our stay at the San Angelo KOA has been wonderful and would recommend the campground as a good place to stay. The only disclaimer I would add is to rent the patio lots with the BBQ, they are situated perfectly with more privacy.

Hiking along a back county road.
Lots of cacti.

Huge flocks of Grackles flew around the campground. They were mesmerizing to watch.
Sandbur pulled off Gizmo.
