Day 148
The beginning of our tour in the US.
For the next three days we will be camped close to Bangor, Maine. A few days prior to our arrival, I spent a little time searching the area to find some must see places in the area. Bangor being a smaller city of only 31,000 comes with a long history. The town was incorporated as a New England town in 1791, in 1830 Bangor became the worlds largest lumber port in the world. Looking and the buildings and houses as we drove through, it was clear, Bangor is rich in age and history.
We started the day by hitting a few of our favourite American stores. As we explored the retail services of the town, I decided to reach out to our cell phone supplier to ensure we were not going to receive any surprise roaming charges on our phone bill. After a few hours of being on hold, I was able to confirm our cell service was good, and ensured we were not going to get any additional charges.
Our last stop for the day was at Stephen Kings home in Bangor. Much to my surprise the city of Bangor has been the inspiration for Stephen fictional town of Derry, a part of the Maine topography that was whipped up in his imagination. The Bangor-inspired town was featured in several of his novels and stories, including “IT”, “Insomnia” and “11/22/63”.
