Day 244
Our journey takes us away from Las Cruces as we head for Silver City, New Mexico. Crossing the arid valley towards the Pinos Altos mountain range was uneventful, and I even managed to use the cruise control for most of the journey. We arrived in Silver City mid morning and proceeded to check in at the KOA campground.
After we checked in, we quickly set up the Rv and headed into town to look around. To get the lay of the land and find the best places to visit, we decided to make our way to the visitors centre. When we arrived, Lori headed into the centre and I took the pups for a walk over to an old log cabin situated beside the centre.
Much to my surprise, the cabin was a replica built on the location where Henry McCarty lived with his mom for two years when his family moved to Silver City. When Henry’s mom passed in 1874, he took to a life of crime becoming the legendary Billy the Kid.
After exploring the old cabin, we picked up a few groceries and headed home to take the pups for a good long walk. Our plan is to spend tomorrow exploring Silver City and the historical cave dwellings before moving into Arizona for the Christmas Holidays.
