Day 134
We made no plans for today and decided to enjoy the scenery from our tent, while we worked on a Harry Potter puzzle 🧩.
I am certainly enjoying the abundance of time I have to read. I just finished a book called The Enigma, I picked up in St. John’s, based on a U-boat captured by a fishing village in Newfoundland. The book is based on the story of a U-boat deceiving a small isolated fishing village in thinking they are a British submarine, and need to use their harbour as a base for their boat. It’s a pretty wild story, and is written from transcripts told by a local of the village just before she passed away. The author of the book says the facts of her story check out, except no government military records indicate there was a sub in the harbour. According to the military, the U-boat was sunk east of Newfoundland by the HMS Viscount while attacking a convoy…. Always three sides to the truth, not a bad read if you enjoy WWII stories.
