Day 120
I decided to take a break from the technical issues of the Rv and do a little more exploring today. Since our last visit to PEI, I had changed the way we planned our expeditions, and was curious to see what we had missed in the way of costal scenery and landmarks in the Cavendish area. Being back in PEI, I naturally figured I would locate a pile of lighthouses that had yet to be discovered, and I was right.
Our first stop was the New London Lighthouse. This lighthouse is located close to French River and much to my surprise it had a beautiful sandy beach. We walked the beach for a little and did my best to coax Sophie into the water, but she wanted nothing to do with it. After a short period we headed back to the truck and took the opportunity to launch the drone for a better view of the area. While I was bringing in the drone in, Lori ran into two couples that were from Airdrie…. Small world.
The roads we took to our next few treks were a little on the off-road side, and managed to get the truck covered in red mud. During our visit to the Tryon lighthouse, a young girl pulled in with her Tesla, and asked if we could take a picture of herself with her car in front of the lighthouse. We snapped a few pictures and asked how she liked her Tesla. She explained she absolutely loves her car and is on a road trip from Massachusetts with it. We bid her a safe journey as she left, and proceeded to the truck.
As we headed down the road from the lighthouse we fell in behind her Tesla on our way to the main road. At the end of the road there was a T-intersection, going left took you back to the highway, and to the right was a dirt trail leading further along the coastline. We had planned on taking the dirt trail, and surprisingly the Tesla did too. I made a comment to Lori about seeing how well a Tesla’s handles the off road. We followed her through some pretty serious ruts and mid sized puddles until we came to a large puddle that submerged a large section of the road. You could see the hesitation in the Tesla as she stopped in front of the puddle, as I eagerly waited in anticipation on the outcome of a Tesla doing a mud bog. Much to my disappointment she back away, and I moved forward driving along the edge of the puddle and flattening the long grass on the edge enough for the Tesla to follow in our tracks..I guess it’s a good thing she did not get stuck, I know it would have been me wading into the puddle to get her out 😂.
Shortly after the large puddle, the road turned into a gravel road before ending at the highway. Our next destination was the Tea Cup Rocks located beside Thunder Cove Beach. We walked the beach to the far end where the Tea Cup Rocks where supposedly located, only to find they were cutoff by the tide and a small cliff that jutted out. I launched the drone to see if they were indeed on the other side. After a little more exploring we headed to the Cabot Beach Provincial Park for a little lunch before taking the pups home from a hot 🥵 day.
