Day 160
When we began our journey, our goal was to keep the RV away from heavily populated areas and use the truck to move around in. For our stay in Washington we had to make an exception to this rule. During the planning for our visit to Washington, we were unable to secure a campground within a reasonable distance outside of DC. Located between Baltimore and Washington there was a KOA nestled alongside the I97 and highway 32 that was only one hour from Washington. For the more hardy traveller this would have been the obvious choice, I was concerned as I would have to drive the Rv through parts of Baltimore to get to the campground. Staying only fifty minutes from Washington was ideal even for us, and we booked our stay for there.
Today was the the drive in and stressed would be an understatement of how we felt. The drive was pretty relaxing for the first half. As we continued to approach Baltimore the traffic began to pick up and the highway increased in size from two, to four lanes. Within a short period I had a sea of vehicles flying past us on the highway… and I was even going the speed limit. In the morning I examined our route by satellite images and the roads seemed to be mostly highways with few changeovers, nothing appeared to be crazy…. Well, the satellite photos don’t show you the hordes of traffic you need to navigate through, or what lanes you really need to be in to ensure you get the correct turnoff. Fortunately for me I had Lori keeping watch for our exits and had me in the correct lane when they came up. We made it to the campground around four and relaxed with a few drinks to celebrate our survival.
