Day Three
Today was a test on our commitment to our Journey. These events certainly smacked me on the side of the head with reality. I knew we were going to have challenges and technical issues along the way, but they would be few and far apart, rainbows and unicorns in my head I guess.
The drive into Regina was windy and I am certain we looked like a drunk driver to other vehicles as I did my best effort to keep the RV in my lane, Lots of white knuckling the steering wheel again.
We finally made it to the campground that had our reservation and I met with an employee in the office who apologized about taking the reservation as they are actually are closed for the season, after a little haggling she relented and allowed us stay.
The campground was nice and the weather had warmed up enough that everything was muddy and soft, including the camping spots. I did not think to much of this in the evening but in the morning I had discovered the RV’s rear tires had sunk down in the mud and the temperature dropped to -8 over night freezing the ground solid. It took close to two hours to get the RV out and I am pretty sure I had damaged one tire that was actually sitting on really small course gravel that made one hell of a smoke show.
As I worked on getting the RV unstuck, I went to retrieve my toolbox stored in the lower compartment located just below the bathroom. When I opened the compartment everything inside was wet and a pool of water was on the compartment floor…. (just to clarify I believe it’s from the shower… I guess that’s better than the toilet 🤮)
For a very brief few moments as I was whipping things out of the compartment and across the RV site making one hell of a scene for Lori and anyone else who just happened to be watching, I completely lost it! That's when I received the slap of reality across the back of my head! The hope for rainbows and unicorns were gone.
Once we managed to get the RV unstuck and begin our trip to our next stop, the sky was blue, the roads were clear, and the wind was moderate, I still held onto the steering wheel in anticipation of a surprise wind gust but received something even more terrifying. A rig was coming up on us at an extreme rate of speed, as he came up along side me the air displacement from his truck blew the RV in a split second over about four feet and then pulled us about six feet back the other way as we fell in behind his wake, I was fishtailing so much after he passed that I thought we were going over, I managed to stay calm long enough to bring the RV back under control but I could have made diamonds from my ass at the time. More drinks this evening for sure…
