Day Fifty Two
Our brief stay in Edmundston was an enjoyable one. Our campsite was located at the far end of the campground on the bend of a river, providing us with a very private spot. Unfortunately, due to the heavy rain, we did not get an opportunity to enjoy it. The entrance of the campground was situated on a hill with a dirt road leading down to the rivers edge where it levelled off. Throughout the day, the rain had turned the road into giant mud trail, I became more concerned throughout the day about getting the RV out.
Closing up the RV went quick and we decided it would be best to find a spot outside of the campground to hook the truck to the RV due to the muddy roads. Once Lori pulled away in the truck, I gunned the RV off the only dry patch of soil the RV was sitting on and into the muddy road, leading around, up, and out of the campground. We made it out with no issues and pulled into an empty parking lot to affix the truck to the RV.
Today we set our sights on the city of Miramichi, settled along side the river of Miramachi. Miramichi is the largest city in northern New Brunswick with a population of 18,000. Our campground is located up river from the city on the tip of the forks where the Miramichi, and the Oxbow river join. From Edmundston, the Canada highway turns south towards Fredericton and we needed to head east. We had two options , the primary highway towards Miramichi was the 17, it headed north over to Chaleur Bay before heading south again. The 108 secondary highway went straight across but was clear to us it was going to be a backroad trail.
During my time at the RV dealership, I had learned that the best way to see a country is to drive the secondary roads, this being the furthest Lori, and I have ever been in Canada, we decided to take the back road. The trip to Miramichi was amazing! The road was in moderate shape with patches of potholes throughout. In the four hours of driving we only saw a handful of vehicles allowing me to drive down the middle of the road at times to dodge the potholes. Around 2:00 o’clock we arrived at our new home for the next four days.
