All Hail Canada!

Day 258

Today’s weather was expected to be clear skies, with a cool wind coming up from the south. With very little to see around the area, we took an additional five minutes to drive through Salome one more time before heading home to spend the day around the campground.

My question from yesterday of what is in Salome that would attract a KOA was also answered today. The campground itself had a capacity of approximately 200 sites, with about 75 spots filled with Rv’s. About three quarters of The Rv’s had at least one off-road dune buggy parked beside it, and later in the evening, dune buggy’s continually arrived from a day in the dessert, until we were the only campers without an off-road dune buggy parked outside.

Normally I would have not given these off-roaders a second look. But I noticed that all the dune-buggy’s were the new modern side-by-sides with some serious suspension and tires. These were not your entry level vehicles, and they actually looked pretty cool. Our neighbour who was driving a four seater Can-Am Maverick had to go out of his way to tell us how Canadians make the best off-road vehicles and everyone in their club would not own anything less, it was actually quite flattering to have an American praising a Canadian company.

Proud to see the Canadian flag at this campground.

The campground has off-road trails all over the valley and into the mountains around it.
I believe these are Gila woodpeckers who make their nests in the cactus.
