Day 277
I was beginning to feel a little better since yesterday and was looking to get in a little more exploring before we break camp and head west towards the coast. The weather was expected to be sunny and 18c today with wind warnings for later in the evening. Perfect day to head for the Rainbow Basin located forty minutes west of our campground.
The Basin is a colourful, twisting formation of unique rocks that make you feel you have transported to another planet. Within the valley, the base of the formations is the massive batholith made form quartz monzonite which lies below much of the western Mojave Desert. The basin is rich with fossil beds that have provided scientists information about life between twelve and sixteen million years ago. Driving through the valleys reminded me of the badlands back in Alberta.
After spending some time exploring the basin, we headed into town for a few things before returning home for the evening. As forecasted, the wind began to pickup when we returned and rocked the Rv through out the night.
