A Day of Waiting

Day Ninety

This will be our second, and last day in the Deer Lake RV park. Tomorrow we head to Port aux Basques for the ferry. In the afternoon, it is expected to rain so we decided to do the usual house chores and laundry.

I figure this would be a good time to provide an update on the mechanical issues I have mentioned in previous posts. Close to the beginning of our trip we found water in one of the lower compartments, the source of the leak was not found, and it seemed to have stopped. I have taken a few opportunities to explore the lower section throughout our journey, in hopes of discovering what happened to no avail, no leaks have been found and the lower compartments remains dry.

Shortly after the leak, I made a second post about a ghost in the electrical system. This ghost would briefly show the house, and starter battery as depleted along with killing the power to the dash when we were set up for camping. After a few minutes, the power would return and the display would read normal. I had wondered if the solar system was doing something funky and planned to disconnect it for a short time and see if that would remedy the problem. Prior to me powering down the solar panel, I decided to leave the battery disconnect in the on position when we were set up for camping. That did the trick, I’m not sure of what really was happening, but my thought was the solar panel must have been having some sort of tug of war with the disconnect when it was in the off position.

In the last few months a few new challenges have popped up; one is our grey tank sensors have failed. These are the new external sensors that send an electrical current into the tank for a water level reading. It’s not a critical problem, just an inconvenient one. The second relates to our decision to go with an A-class RV.

We are very happy with our RV, and stand by our decision to go with an A-class over a fifth-wheel. When we were weighing the options between the two, both seemed to have to same amount of pros and cons. One major con that sits on the A-class, should anyone be looking, is getting service for the chassis. RV dealers do not service the chassis, leaving you to the local truck center's, and they are booked out for months. Just to even get a simple oil change is a big deal, I will be attempting my first oil change on the RV fairly soon.
