Day 257
We continue our journey west to California with one short stop in Salome, Arizona before we cross over the state line. When we booked our stay in Salome, I had a hunch the campground was in the middle of the dessert, but there had to be some sort of attraction close for a KOA to be situated there.
Our journey into a valley of the Sonoran Desert took us onto a single lane highway with frequent caution signs for flash flooding and washed out roads. As we drove further into the desert we came across sections of the highway that had indeed been flooded from yesterdays rain storm. When we finally arrived in Salome, I made the mistake of blinking and missed the entire town, the place felt like a modern old west where there was a small strip of buildings and that was it.
We arrived at the the Salome KOA about five minutes outside of the town surrounded by an abandoned motel, the desert and another Rv campground.
