We Sprung a Leak

Day 248

For the last few days I have been on the hunt to locate a possible water leak in the Rv. Since New Mexico the evenings have dropped below freezing, forcing us to use our freshwater tank instead of the mainline to the campground.

My suspicion of a leak was tipped off when the pump began to activate for a brief second when no water taps in the Rv were in use. I quickly checked the waterlines under the sinks and below the shower and found nothing. Thinking a waterline may have froze below, I began climbing through each storage compartment in hopes of discovering why the pump was doing this. In the back electrical compartment I found a pool of water under the wood boards I use to level the Rv. Thinking this was where the problem was, I removed the boards and searched for the source of the water. Unable to find anything I left the compartment empty and watched it over the next few days, no new water showed and the water in the compartment began to dry out.

Figuring this water must have been spray kicked up from the rear tires during our travel through some rain, it left me no further ahead to my possible waterline leak. On the morning of our final day in Silver City, I walked the dogs around the Rv and noticed an icicle hanging off the main slide. Peeking under the slide I saw water dripping from where the kitchen sink waste pipe exited the floor of the slide. Back inside the Rv I removed the kitchen drawers to get access in behind where the hot water tank was positioned.

At first glance there was no leak visible. This time being a little more detailed in my investigation I pushed the two water lines that ran along the floor towards the sewer exit of the sink, under one of the hoses was a line of water running the full length of it. Following it back, I found it lead to a T connector that was poorly applied during construction of the Rv. I have no idea how long this leak has been going on, and it’s very fortunate the water followed the hose to the hole where the sink sewer pipe exited the slide. For now we are turning the water off after we use it until I meet an Rv repair tech just after the Christmas Holiday.

I’m pretty sure thats where those photo bombers live who keep wrecking our pictures.
At first glance, the leak is not visible.
Bad connector
If you look way under the cabinets you can see where the water stops following the waterline and heads for the hole.
