Our Embarrassment

Day 220

For our final day in Louisiana we were expected to be met with heavy rain throughout the day. In the morning, we decided to go for breakfast at the Cracker Barrel just down the highway. I figured this could be my last time to try grits before heading into Texas, but just couldn’t bring myself to order something that I may not eat, so I opted for another known American dish, Chicken and waffles…well, it was chicken and French toast here, but you get the picture. 

When we departed for breakfast, we left the blinds and front window screen open, enabling the pups to look around. Normally, if we did this at other campgrounds the dogs would spend their time making a nuisance of themselves by barking at anyone who walk past, or worse, bark at the people beside us. At this campsite we were placed in a private corner so the pups had little to bark at, unless someone walking their dog came by. 

In an effort to control the barking when we were away, we would closed the blinds and front window screen. Over time the pups learned they could push their way under the front screen until it popped off its tracks, allowing for a day of barking entertainment. In an effort to prevent this, we began barricading the front window. The first two barricades we created failed under the scrutiny of the two mischievous pups and would find their way back under the front screen. Our latest barricade, barricade 3.0 has been impenetrable to puppy attack so far and has been successful in preventing them from being an embarrassment. 

It’s sad we have to do this but we are unable to control the barking. What your looking at is the drivers console and front window of the Rv. The bunk bed that folds above this area is lowered down and a blanket draped over the seats. Dog cages, pillows and miscellaneous bags are placed to prevent the pups from pushing under the blanket. 

Found this at the Cracker Barrel gift store….. yuck! But deserves credit for creativity 

During our stay on Louisiana, the oak trees in the area were covered in a fern called Resurrection Fern.  When the weather is dry, the fern will turn brown to conserve energy, making it look dead. As soon as it rains the fern will come alive, turning green again.
