Crossing the Mississippi

 Day 174

Today we depart from Nashville and head for Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee. Our stay in Nashville was excellent and we felt we saw everything that was of interest to us. The campground was fantastic and we were amazed how close we were to the Grand Ole Opry.

Our drive for today was four hours to the Memphis KOA in Arkansas, where we will be staying for three nights before moving on. The weather was beautiful for the majority of the drive, Lori and I were really enjoying the day. Around noon we stopped in a rest stop for a walk with the dogs, and a little lunch. When we reached Memphis, we drove into a nasty thunder storm, the rain began a mile from the Mississippi. When we approached the Arkansas & Tennessee bridge, we were hit with the full force of the storm, the wind had picked up so fierce, the rain was coming in sideways across the bridge. The Rv was leaning hard to the left and I had the wheel turned heavy to the right just to keep us in our lane. Garbage along the side of the bridge was being kicked up and thrown at the vehicles who were caught crossing. A broken tie down strap that was also lying on the road was whipped high into the air and went flying past us, I was unsure if the hook was attached the the strap, and was glad we didn’t find out.

We made it off the bridge unscathed and the wind began to die down as we moved away from the storm. We arrived at our campground rattled to be sure, but happy everything was fine.

Driving through Tennessee, with the fall colour coming in.

In Canada we would be used to seeing animal fatalities on the highway, here they show human fatalities.
Does not look as bad as it was here.
