Day Eighty
When we were in line for the ferry a few weeks ago, I met another couple from Texas that have been on the road for the last seven years. In discussion about where they were headed in Newfoundland, they had mention there are little towns along the north coast that are amazing. At the time, I was more focused on the main attractions in Newfoundland and did not consider chasing off the beaten path locations.
Today, we decided to take a journey off the beaten path and see what we could find. We set a three hour round trip from Gander to Gander Bay, over to Carmanville, to lumsden, Wesleyville, Gambo and then back to Gander. There were about a dozen small towns to explore throughout this route and each one was a picturesque sleepy town with absolutely amazing views of bays, and coves. We found campgrounds that we would have never looked for, situated right on the ocean with spectacular views.
During our searches for great places to visit, you would get a fair number of comments on beaches. Over the course of our travels we passed a few of the beaches mentioned, and found nothing spectacular about them. Not that I’m saying there is anything wrong with these beaches, we are just more of the exploring tourist, rather than the beach goer tourist. But I will admit, the town of lumsden truly had the mother of all beaches……๐.. get it, mother of all beaches… hmm ๐คจ, okay, moving on. This beach had both Lori and me in awe. The shear size of it was amazing and it was completely covered in white sand, no rocky patches or slimy sea matter thrown about giving you the heebie-jeebies. Of course it was clear this was definitely a spot the locals of Newfoundland vacationed at, there were a fair number of seasonal campsites lined up along the back of the beach bustling with activity.
We stayed for a little lunch on the beach, and of course I took the opportunity to launch the drone, and explore a little with it before moving on. As we continued our journey, we did not find ourselves disappointed at all along the route. In conclusion, I certainly understand the travelers comments from Texas about camping in the small towns along the ocean, and would do so if we ever returned.
