Mr. Watson, Come Here, I Want to See You.

Day Sixty Five

Lori and I are history buffs, we enjoy learning how history has shaped this world to what it is. I have read a fair number of biographies on monumental people who really made a significant contribution to humanity. One person I have overlooked was Alexander Graham Bell.

Alexander Graham Bell lived in both the US and Canada after he immigrated with his family from Scotland. I was surprised to find out his home was located in Baddeck, Nova Scotia and is still owned by his descendants. In Baddeck, the Canadian historical museum of Alexander Graham Bell is located.

The weather was expected to be rainy, so an indoor museum would be perfect for today. The museum has a tremendous amount equipment and personal possessions generously donated by the family.

Alex Graham Bell’s Mother was deaf and spent considerable time working with his father on communications for the deaf. Later in life, he married Mabel Hubbard who was also deaf. His dealing with the hearing impaired set the foundation for his vast understanding of vocal communication. The telephone was his largest claim to fame, and financially allowed him to put more focus an all sorts of study’s and inventions.

Throughout his passion for inventing, he would generally loose interest in something once a concept, or design had commercial value to it. A few of his designs are so close to modern day technology it’s astounding how an amateur inventor was able to conceive such ideas.

After viewing the museum we had a little picnic on the roof of the museum and headed home to free the puppies…. Gizmo stayed away from the slime pit.
