Big Bags of Air

Day Seventy

After we put the pups to bed for the night aboard the ferry, we locked up the RV and headed for the elevator. As we waited for the elevator, I noted a big number three painted on the wall. An assistant was there informing everyone that their vehicles are on the third floor, and to please not forget. I wondered how many people do?

When we booked the ferry with Marine Atlantic back in March, the lady informed us all the private rooms were booked, but she could get us into the reserved seating if we wanted. Not sure what to expect, we agreed. The reserved seating was located on the ninth floor of the ferry. Entering the room we noticed the seats were large recliners paired in two’s facing a large window looking out the back of the boat. We located our seats and settled in for the night.

As more travellers arrived, it was evident they had a little more experience travelling on the ferry than us, as they arrived carrying pillows and blankets. When the ferry pushed off, everyone in the room began preparing to get some sleep. A few passengers dropped their pillow and blanket on the floor and went to sleep there.

Lori and I did our best to get a little sleep, but our worry for the pups, mixed with a little excitement of the journey, along with the constant biological explosions and snoring from other passengers, found ourselves pretty exhausted when the ferry finally arrived.

Shortly after the ferry docked, the announcement was made that they will begin the offloading, and decks three and five were to report to their vehicles. Lori and I packed up our stuff and headed down to the RV.

When I opened the door to the RV, the pups began crying and barking in excitement to our arrival. Lori was concerned the pups needed to go the washroom sooner than later and took them onto the deck of the ferry between the rigs and RV. I had horrible vision of one of them breaking free from their leash and taking off under all the vehicles terrified by all the noise. The pups showed no interest in going the washroom and were eager to return back into the safety of the RV.

Shorty after we had the pups back in, the truck along side us began pulling out, followed by the vehicles in front of us. Once off the boat we headed to the first place we could pull over for brief walk with the pups in some fresh cut grass.

Our campground was two and a half hours north towards Port au Port East. We ate a quick breakfast consisting of a muffin and some water and headed off.

They pack you in tight. Could not even open our door fully.
