Day Forty Five
A few years back, I read the biography of Leonardo da Vinci. Through his life he continually worked to create, and perfect his painting skills. In this quest for perfection it took him over a decade to finish the Mona Lisa.
The book goes into detail about his dissatisfaction with the current artists of the time and his struggles to make paintings more realistic. He experimented with lighting, and paint compounds that could possibly allow him to created more depth and detail. As time passed he would apply different techniques to the Mona Lisa, making many changes over time. It’s believed it took him over a decade to create, and some say he never truly finished the painting.
Even though I have read Leonardo’s biography, the book leads into details of what artists strive to achieve. I have never had any interest in the art world, and yesterday Lori expressed her interest in visiting the National Art Gallery of Canada, I was silent…… And with a mental sigh inside myself, I agreed to accompany her to the gallery.
The gallery is located on Sussex Drive with a notable view of parliament hill, and is the largest art museum in North America by exhibition space. The gallery has a wide range of art on display from local artists of today to old world artists of the past. I will admit, I did find the old European artist interesting. What I did not find interesting is this garbage they call contemporary art. How can you paint a canvas solid black with a red stripe down it and call it art?

Beautiful, other than the stripe of course
